The Innovation Network is focused on the development of start-ups, innovation-driven, technology based, and growth-oriented companies in Kentucky.
The Kentucky Innovation Network Richmond Office, established in 2001, is a part of a unique and dynamic partnership to facilitate the development of start-ups, and to assist growth oriented businesses. It is managed in partnership by the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development, the Kentucky Science and Technology Corporation, and Eastern Kentucky University.
The Center is located on the Lake Level of the Business & Technology Center on EKU’s campus. The mission is to create an environment that stimulates the development and commercialization of innovations, and fosters entrepreneurial growth and expansion of enterprises. The vision is to foster a Culture of Entrepreneurship among faculty, students, and service region.
It is a part of statewide network of experienced business mentors focused entirely on the development of innovation-driven, technology based companies in Kentucky. The Kentucky Innovation Network Center at EKU primarily supports a 13-county area which includes Mercer, Boyle, Garrard, Madison, Clark, Powell, Estill, Lee, Casey, Lincoln, Rockcastle, Jackson, and Owsley counties. The Center at EKU supports a cluster approach and works in conjunction with various offices across the state, and particularly as a collaborator in the Eastern Region Innovation Network (Richmond, Morehead, Ashland, and London), as well as, with the Lexington Innovation Network Center.
Kentucky's Innovation Network (KyIN) consists of twelve offices, spread geographically around the state, that are staffed by experienced and educated business leaders. These Innovation Network Offices possess the depth and breadth of knowledge needed to help technology companies through preliminary business Assessment, Business development and ultimately Capitalization (the ABCs of business development).
Each office offers assistance and guidance to Kentucky companies in the following areas:
- Business development consultation
- Business model consultation
- Validation and Market assessment
- Assistance with growth strategy
- Access to service providers
- Access to professional networks
- Connections to potential suppliers/business partners
- Access to funding resources and capital networks
- Coaching throughout fundraising efforts
These services are available at no-cost to the startup. This is all made possible by support from the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development, the Kentucky Science and Technology Corporation and Eastern Kentucky University.
